Minnesota senior running back David Cobb was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after his 220-yard performance in a 35-24 win against Middle Tennessee on Saturday.
He shares the honor with Illinois quarterback Wes Lunt.
Cobb carried the ball 29 times and also scored two touchdowns as the Gophers moved to 2-0 on the season. He set a TCF Bank Stadium record for a Gopher with his 220 yards and averaged 7.6 yards per carry.
His 220 yards represented Minnesota's first 200-yard rushing game by a single player since Amir Pinnix ran for 206 yards vs. Michigan State on Nov. 12, 2005. Cobb's 220 yards were the most rushing yards by a Gopher since Laurence Maroney rumbled for 258 yards against Wisconsin on Oct. 15, 2005. His 220 rushing yards are the 12th most ever by a Gopher.
Cobb is the first Minnesota student-athlete to be recognized by the Big Ten with a weekly honor since Peter Mortell was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week on Nov. 11, 2013.
