College Football: Haeg named preseason top 50

Former Brainerd High School graduate and current starting left tackle for the North Dakota State University Bison Joe Haeg was named to The College Sporting News Preseason Fab 50 All America team Tuesday.

Former Brainerd High School graduate and current starting left tackle for the North Dakota State University Bison Joe Haeg was named to The College Sporting News Preseason Fab 50 All America team Tuesday.

Haeg, along with NDSU's quarterback Carson Wentz, fullback Andrew Bonnet and punter Ben LeCompte were named to the list.

This is the second preseason All-America team Haeg has been named to. Haeg was also selected to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Conference First Team.

College Sporting News annually names national coach, offensive, and defensive honors, pre-season and post-season All-America teams, national weekly honors, and maintains the Gridiron Power Index (GPI) ranking of teams in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.

The Bison will open the season 2:30 p.m. Aug. 28 against Montana at Missoula. The game will kickoff the college football season and will be televised on ESPN.

NDSU's first home game will be Sept. 12 against Weber State.

Haeg was a First team All-America in 2014 and named Top Collegiate Offensive Lineman by the FCS Athletic Directors Association. The former walk-on, who was charged with following a pair of NFL tackles in Paul Cornick and Billy Turner, made 29 of 30 possible starts at right tackle his first two years after Cornick's departure,and moved to starting left tackle in 2014 after Turner's exit.
