FERGUS FALLS - Jake Faber threw for three touchdowns, and Central Lakes College and the Minnesota State Fergus Falls Spartans combined for 648 passing yards in a 45-20 Raiders win in the season opener Saturday.

CLC scored all of its points in just two quarters, as the Raiders put 21 points on the board in the first and followed with 24 in the third.

Cedric Davis started off the scoring with a 26-yard fumble return.

"It was a good Week One win for the Raiders," said CLC coach Greg Medeck. "We jumped out to a great start with the defensive touchdown on the first play of the game. The offense followed up with a couple early scores to establish a nice early lead."

Athen Ashton scored on a 1-yard plunge and quarterback Jake Faber followed with a 4-yard strike to Jared Adkins and CLC led 21-0 after the first quarter.

Steve Wroblewski caught a 29-yard pass from Faber to start the third quarter and put the Raiders up 28-0.

Fergus Falls responded as Lakeem Johnson caught a 36-yard scoring pass from Javonte Johnson.

CLC retaliated by putting 10 points on the board on a 21-yard field goal from Fafa Asante and another scoring strike from Faber to Elias Arlington, who finished with six catches for 111 yards.

Fergus Falls responded with two more scores before CLC finished off the third quarter with a 9-yard pass from Riley Atkinson to Beau Wilhelm.

"Minnesota State continued to battle and made it challenging in the third quarter," Medeck said. "We saw a lot of great football and also had an opportunity to learn a lot about our team on Saturday."

The offense put up some big numbers as the Raiders finished with 484 total yards. However, the defense also performed well as Minnesota State finished with a negative-75 yards in rushing. Josh Mantel led the Raiders in tackles with seven.

CLC's Trey Blanchard carried 20 times for 99 yards.

The Raiders open at home at 1:30 p.m. next Saturday against defending state champion Rochester.
