College Softball: Anderson, Gophers sweep Rutgers

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.--Brainerd High School graduate Nikki Anderson fired a complete-game shutout as the No. 21 University of Minnesota Gophers blanked the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights 8-0 in a Big Ten game Saturday.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.-Brainerd High School graduate Nikki Anderson fired a complete-game shutout as the No. 21 University of Minnesota Gophers blanked the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights 8-0 in a Big Ten game Saturday.

Anderson did not allow a hit in her first 3.2 innings of work. Her most impressive inning was the second when she recorded three outs on just three pitches with Sydney Fabian hauling in back-to-back-to-back catches in right field.

She finished with a 4-hitter, one walk and five strikeouts. Anderson threw 83 pitches, 60 strikes, and raised her record to 6-4.

The Gophers wrapped up the weekend series Sunday with an 11-1 victory over Rutgers. Anderson pitched two innings in relief allowing two hits and no earned runs. She struck out one and walked none and threw 21 pitches, 15 strikes.

Minnesota (11-3 Big Ten, 30-12 overall) hosts Nebraska to open a 3-game series at 6 p.m. Friday.
