College Softball: Anderson pitches first shutout for Gophers

CLERMONT, Fla. - Nikki Anderson earned the first shutout of her career as the University Minnesota softball team defeated UMass Lowell, 8-0, in six innings Sunday.

CLERMONT, Fla. - Nikki Anderson earned the first shutout of her career as the University Minnesota softball team defeated UMass Lowell, 8-0, in six innings Sunday.

The Brainerd High School graduate fanned seven River Hawks and improved her record to 2-0. The win was fifth-year head coach Jessica Allister's 150th with the Gopher program.

In the second game, the Gophers fell to Central Florida, 4-0, at the National Training Center.

The Gophers matched the best start in program history by improving to 8-0 with the shutout of the River Hawks and dropped their first game of the season in the loss to the Knights.

Minnesota will resume action next weekend in the Diamond Devil Tournament at Tempe, Ariz. The Gophers will play New Mexico State at 10 a.m. Friday, Boise State at 2:30 p.m. Friday and 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Arizona State at 7 p.m. Saturday and Colorado State at noon Sunday.
