College Track and Field: Degen a double winner

Brainerd High School graduate Jenna Degen leapt to a first-place finish in the women's long jump March 25 in the College of St. Benedict-St. John's University Outdoor Invitational in Collegeville.

Brainerd High School graduate Jenna Degen leapt to a first-place finish in the women's long jump March 25 in the College of St. Benedict-St. John's University Outdoor Invitational in Collegeville.

Degen posted a winning 16-foot-7 ¾ to win the long jump, and added a first in the high jump with a 5-1 ¾ effort.

St. Benedict won the women's side of the event with Concordia second.

BHS graduate Hannah Lundstrom of Concordia won the women's 100-meter dash in 12.84. Fellow Brainerd graduate and Cobber teammate Maria West placed second in the 800 run with a 2:27.42. Zoe Loucks, a freshman at Minnesota Morris and Pillager graduate, finished seventh.

In the women's 1500, Concordia's Sara Whiteman (Brainerd) finished fourth in 5:16.01 followed by St. Benedict's Mattia Hendrickson (Little Falls) in seventh.

Men's track and field

Travis Jacobson of Hamline University won the hammer toss March 25 with a 163-foot-5 effort at the CSB-SJU Outdoor Invitational at St. John's.

The Pequot Lakes High School graduate bettered the second-place finisher by five feet.

Jacobson's effort helped Hamline to fourth in the team standings.

David Supinski of Concordia Moorhead ran a first-place time of 1:59.85 to win the 800-meter run. The BHS graduate was the only athlete to break two minutes. Teammate and BHS grad Nick Solheim placed sixth in the 1,500 run with a time of 4:16.03.
