WILLMAR - Kelly Pearson tallied 18 total kills and Sam Schlangen and Shelby Uphoff each had 15 as the Central Lakes College Raiders opened their season with a pair of close losses Friday.
The Raiders dropped their first match against North Dakota State College of Science 25-22, 26-24, 25-22. They then lost to Ridgewater in the nightcap 3-1 with two games being decided 26-24.
"My first comment to everybody is don't panic." said CLC head coach Jane Peterson. "We've got some things to do better, but it's good to know that we're right in there with the caliber of these teams."
"We played tough tonight, they were good volleyball games, and defensively we played very well. It's disappointing to lose when you have a chance to win, especially against Ridgewater."
Schlangen was credited with 44 set assists while Ashton Kapphahn added 32 set assists and 13 kills.
