MONTICELLO - Tyler Moore placed fourth and Meritt Miller placed 13th at Thursday's Section 8-2A meet to advance to the Class 2A state meet.

Brainerd's Miller ran a time of 19:32.46 to help the Warriors place sixth with 144 points.

Little Falls finished 13th on the girls side, but the boys placed eighth led by Moore's time of 16:28.88. Willmar's Nadir Yusuf won the section title in 16:12.64.

The Brainerd boys finished one spot behind Little Falls in ninth. Ryan Swartwood led the charge with a 26th-place time of 17:08.55.

"Meritt ran a fantastic race," said Warrior head coach Dave Herath. "We're in an incredibly challenging section so for her to qualify for state is quite an accomplishment. Our entire girls team did well. We ran a meet here earlier in the year and placed 15th so to come back and place sixth was fantastic for those girls.

For the boys, everyone dropped a fairly significant amount of time from the last time we ran there considering the conditions today were quite a bit worse. The boys ran really well, but it wasn't the place we were hoping to get, but the effort was definitely there."

The top two teams and top eight individuals not on those teams will advance to the Nov. 7 state meet at St. Olaf.
