PIERZ - Third was a popular finish for the Brainerd Warriors Monday in the Pierz Pioneers Stampede.

Both Warrior boys and girls teams claimed thirds with the boys team led by David Supinski's 12th-place 17:24.3. Ryan Swartwood placed 13th, Matt Cherne 24th and Peder Smith 27th.

Meritt Miller's 15th place time of 16:24.2 paced the Warrior girls. Sara Whiteman placed 20th, Molly Selisker 25th and Emma Anderson 36th.

"It was a very good effort, particular for the boys team," said Warriors head coach Dave Herath. "To have four guys finish under 18 minutes was a really good effort on a fairly muddy, soft course. The girls are continuing to get healthy and that's what we're working on now."

Crosby-Ironton's Margaret Stokman led the area girls with an 11th-place time of 16:10.5 to lead the Rangers to ninth place.
