The Brainerd Lakes Curling Club hosted 24 four-member teams last weekend for its first-ever Rock & Beer Open Spiel.
Teams came from all over the state as well as Wisconsin and North Dakota to compete for one of four championships. The team that came the farthest went undefeated to win the A Event. Team Jacobson, led by Skip Russ Heier, consisted of curlers from Bismarck, N.D., Green Bay, Wis., and Wisconsin Rapids. In the finals, they beat Brainerd's Team Murray behind Skip Paul Murray.
Team Hunt came down from Bemidji and returned home with the B Event championship. Behind Skip Ben Hunt, the team beat Brainerd's Nisswa Dental in the finals. Nisswa Dental was led by Skip Craig Johnson.
The C Event finals featured two Brainerd teams that were tied 7-7 at the end of the game, requiring an extra end. The Linda's, behind Skip Ginny McDonald, pulled out the win, beating Bob And The Monkeys, led by Skip Bob Nelson.
In the D Event finals, Brainerd's Team Rambo, behind Skip John Agre, defeated Skip Jeremy Smolich's Temple of Broom, which was made up of curlers from Brainerd, St. Paul and Eveleth.

Brainerd's next bonspiel is the Gopher State Women's Bonspiel March 1-3.
