Curling: Brainerd to host U-18 regional championships

Brainerd Lakes Curling Association will host the U-18 Regional Championships Friday through Sunday, Jan. 27-29, in the Fran Holden Memorial Arena at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds.

Brainerd Lakes Curling Association will host the U-18 Regional Championships Friday through Sunday, Jan. 27-29, in the Fran Holden Memorial Arena at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds.

Curling starts at 7 p.m. Friday with matches Saturday at 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

U.S. curlers won bronze medals at the World Men's and World Mixed Doubles championships, silver medals in the women's and men's Junior Worlds, and a silver medal at the Youth Olympic Winter Games.

The number of people curling in the U.S. is at a record level. The U.S. is developing more new clubs than any other country in the world.

The addition of the U-18 National Championship is designed to help continue developing younger athletes and keep curling clubs in this country operating.
