MINNEAPOLIS — The Brainerd Warriors advanced to the Class 3A finals in state kick and a posted a fourth-place finish Saturday, Feb. 15, at Target Center in Minneapolis.

“We performed way better at finals than we did at prelims,” Warriors head coach Cindy Clough said. “Our scores went way up. We performed way better in the evening and we were pleased with that.

“We placed fourth, which we are proud of. I think our kids were a little disappointed because they were so set on medalling. But with time they will look back and think it’s amazing what they accomplished.”

Eastview claimed the top-spot with a total rank score of five. Chaska and Wayzata both tied for second with Chaska earning the tiebreaker.

Brainerd edged out both Lakeville North and Prior Lake to get its fourth-place finish

The Warriors capped off their season making the state finals in both jazz and kick, which is the first time they’ve done that. Brainerd placed fifth in jazz Friday.

“It tired us all out I think,” Clough said of making the finals both days. “It’s a lot physically on your body and long days. Totally enjoyable and we got a lot of compliments from other coaches on our routine.

“The work ethic of the kids has been really awesome this year and they really pushed hard. There was not a lot of complaining this year and they just did what they needed to do, even when it was hard.”

Pierz and Crosby-Ironton both did not advance to the Class 1A kick finals after their performances in the prelims.
