A first- and a second-place finish during Friday's Central Lakes Conference meet at Brainerd High School should keep Brainerd in the conference lead.
The Warriors won the jazz competition by a point over Sartell.
"I thought we looked great," said Warrior head coach Cindy Clough. "I was happy with their performance. It's fun to perform in front of the home crowd. We did really well. We have a solid routine this year and it's a favorite of the crowd right now."
The crowd came into play as right before Brainerd performed Sauk Rapids was disqualified. There was a long wait before the Warriors actually took to the floor.
"There was a huge pause between Sauk Rapids and us and we were in the chute ready to go on," said Clough. "The Brainerd fans were getting riled up and they kept cheering for us. That helped with our nerves. You never want to be waiting in the chute for a long time, but the crowd helped us through it. It was a huge crowd."

Brainerd and Sartell swapped spots in the high kick. It was how Clough scored it as well.
"It was pretty close. We thought we were going to get second. We had a solid performance, but they were pretty clean. Our execution was good, but I had us a second, too."
With back-to-back first and second performances, along with a first and third for Sartell in the conference's first meet, Brainerd should remain in the lead of the conference season standings.
