ST. CLOUD - The Brainerd Warriors finished third in kick and fourth in jazz in the first Central Lakes Conference competition of the season Tuesday night at St. Cloud Apollo High School.
Brainerd scored 9.5 rank points in kick and 10.5 in jazz.
"We felt we performed better in kick today than we did in Burnsville," Warriors coach Cindy Clough said. "We felt like our energy and faces needed improvement but we were cleaner. Scores were all over the place as we had a first, second, third, fourth and sixth place. That was a pretty wide spread so it doesn't give us much insight.
"In jazz, we had some offish turn sets but overall performed well. Judges ranked us first, third, 3.5, fourth and fourth. This is low for us in conference so we will be hitting it hard.
"These scores carry through the season so we will be starting out as underdogs for the next meet. We feel our difficulty is higher so as we clean up our scores should rise. Every team had different strengths and weaknesses so it made it more difficult for clear-cut places. Sartell was a solid first in both."

It was the first of three CLC dance competitions that require conference teams to perform jazz and kick at all three meets. Scores carry over from meet to meet with points counting toward the overall season championship.
