ANOKA-Coming off a second-place showing in the Central Lakes Conference finale, the Brainerd Warriors won kick and grabbed another second in jazz at the Anoka Invite Saturday, Jan. 12.
Brainerd won kick with 3 rank points followed by Anoka in second with 6 rank points and Spring Lake Park with 12 rank points.
"Anoka was definitely our targeted team to come out ahead of Saturday," Warrior head coach Cindy Clough said. "They won our section last year so we have been chasing them. We came out ahead of them two weeks in a row, but it has been close so we will continue to hone in on all we are doing so we can reach our goal of winning the section in kick.
"Others to worry about in the section are Blaine, who we have not seen yet, Sauk Rapids and St. Cloud Tech. We have come out ahead of those teams two or three times, but you never know."
Brainerd posted 419 points (85, 84, 84, 83, 83 out of 100). Anoka scored 412 points.

Anoka did top Brainerd in jazz with four rank points. Brainerd was close with five rank points and Spring Lake Park was third with 10.
"In jazz, we had hoped to come out ahead of Anoka as we did last week," Clough said. "We had two minor falls and a few other minor timing issues, but had a very solid performance. It was much better than at the conference the night before. We looked more confident and in control. Anoka performed well, too.
"This will fuel us as we move toward sections. They won sections last year and we were second so obviously, we are on a mission."
Brainerd racked up 408 points out of 500, but Anoka finished with 414.
Brainerd's junior varsity kick finished fourth with 11 rank points. JV jazz was also fourth with 11.5 rank points.
