The Brainerd Warriors sophomore football team had all they could handle as they defeated the Alexandria Cardinals 22-14 Thursday at Adamson Field.

The Cardinals moved the ball on their first drive until they fumbled and Brandon Justin recovered for the Warriors. Will Peabody got loose on the third play from scrimmage and ran to the end zone from 56 yards out. Peabody then passed to Brandon Justin for the 2-point conversion.

Alexandria came right back with a 14-play drive, tying the score on a 2-yard run and the game was tied 8-8 at halftime.

The teams both scored in the third quarter. Brainerd's Corbin Pikula had a 45-yard TD run and Alexandria had a 2-yard run.

Brained scored in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard pass from Peabody to Cade Pikula and added two points on a pass from Peabody to Kesmond Willert.

The Warrior defense held the Cardinals for the last eight minutes to preserve the win.

Brainerd's defense held Alexandria to 181 total while the Warriors gained 354 yards.

On defense, Mike Bieganek, Greg Roberts, Tate Arnston, and Brandon Justin were singled out by Warrior coaches for their play.

Offensively, the Warriors were led by Luke Wiskow, Brian Barajas, Ryan Powers, Will Peabody, Corbin Pikula and Kesmond Willert.

Brainerd plays at home next Thursday against St. Cloud Apollo at 4:45 p.m.
