College Football: Raiders' Quaal special teams player of week
Central Lakes College Raider Jack Quaal was named the MCAC Eastern Division Special Teams Player of the Week ending Saturday, Oct. 6.
The freshman placekicker from Brainerd hit a 19-yard field goal on the last offensive play of the game for the Raiders to secure a 31-28 victory over Itasca.
In his first season of playing football, Quaal kicked two extra points before his fourth-quarter heroics. He delivered when it counted on his only field goal attempt of the day.
In addition to accounting for five points, Quaal hit five kickoffs for a total of 206 yards, a 41.2 average.
CLC wide receiver Jordan Thompson had 10 receptions for 159 yards in CLC's win over Itasca. Jake Franklin threw for 221 yards on a 19-for-33 day. Marnez Trotter had an interception for CLC while Gabriel 'Bubba' Magalei led the Raiders with 11 tackles, including two sacks.
CLC is atop the Eastern Division standings at 4-0, and is 4-2 overall having won four in a row. The Raiders will play Fond Du Lac at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Cloquet.
