Jakob Olson threw five touchdown passes for the Central Lakes College Raiders in their 49-13 win over Vermilion Community College in an MCAC Eastern Division game Saturday, Aug. 31, at Don Adamson Field in Brainerd.

Under sunny warm conditions on an artificial surface, the Raiders offense exploded for 375 total yards and a 76-yard kickoff return from Rashaun Cage.

The Raiders defense allowed just 16 yards of rushing on 39 attempts and held Vermilion's quarterback Jamar Holbrook to 121 yards passing.

In last week's season opener against Dakota College, the surface was muddy the Raiders only managed 12 points. With temperatures in the low 70s and on the artificial surface the Raiders were able to see their offense play at a high level, the defense be quick off the ball, and the kickoff return from Cage after the Ironmen closed the gap to 14-7 in the second quarter.

The one area of correction that interim head coach Robb Kolodziej will be dressing with his team is penalties as they were flagged for 125 penalty yards. day, the Raiders are 2-0 with a matchup next week against Minnesota West, a team that defeated Central Lakes last year in the Raiders season opener.

On the next possession Jayou Mensah hauled in an eight yard pass from Olson and it was 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Vermilion put together their best drive of the day with a 12-play, 80-yard drive that ended with a pass from Holbrook to Remington Kramer that cut the Raiders lead to 14-7, a drive that was aided by a face-masking penalty on Central Lakes. On the ensuing kickoff, Cage secured the catch at the 24-yard line and dashed 76 yards for a Raider touchdown. Another driver later in the quarter was finished with Olson's third touchdown pass to Tanasi Reed to make it 28-7 with just 36 seconds left in the quarter.

However, another penalty on Central Lakes gave Vermilion great field position and they ended the quarter with a 46-yard pass for a score to make it 28-13 at the half.

The second half was much cleaner for the Raiders as they kept Vermilion off the scoreboard and the offense scored three more times. Reed caught his second touchdown of the day on a 17-yard pass from Olson, and Frederick also caught a pass for a score. Cage closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard dash to make it 49-13.

Olson's line for the day showed 246 total yards on 17-23 passing. Jesse Sherwood rushed nine times for 52 yards and Mensah led the receivers with five catches for 66 yards.
