PIERZ -- Michael Leidenfrost scored on a 10-yard run and caught passes of 38 and 20 yards from Peter Schommer for two more touchdowns as the No. 2 seeded and Class 3A’s top-ranked Pierz Pioneers crushed the No. 7 seeded St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders 57-14 in the Section 6-3A Quarterfinals Tuesday, Oct. 22.

A 30-yard run by Mathias Algarin put Pierz up 8-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Pioneers blew the game open with 30 unanswered points in the second quarter on all three Leidenfrost scores and a 34-yard punt return by Algarin.

Blake Kowalczyk and Ben Virnig each ran five yards for TDs in the third and Mason Rach capped the Pioneer scoring on a 5-yard run in the fourth.

Pierz is the two-time defending Section 6-3A champion and has won six straight section titles (four in Section 5-3A). The Pioneers have won 14 straight section games and host No. 3 Minnewaska 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 in the Section 6-3A Semifinals.
