The Big Fish and Fry program is coming to an area lake in an effort to introduce ice fishing to children, veterans and their friends and families free of charge.
The day program is planned from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Jan. 21 and 22 at Cragun's Resort on Gull Lake.
Co-founders Pat Walrath and Matt Wilkie started the program to introduce the next generations of anglers to the sport and share the respect they have the outdoors. The program offers day outings across the state as well as night trips to Red Lake and Mille Lacs Lake.
All ice fishing gear is provided and all participants need to do is dress warm and enjoy a Minnesota tradition. Participants should meet at Craguns Resort.
Find out more information about the program including how to register for these outings at Bigfishandfry.com or by calling 651-528-6600. Pre-registration is preferred but participants can also register the day of the event on site.

The organizers will set up portable fish houses in front of the resort and participants can sign up for two-hour intervals. All those under age 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.
According to the group's website, they promote the sport of ice fishing to Minnesota youth who may not be aware or able to afford partaking in the activity. The goal is to leave a lasting impression and inspire children to remain involved in the sport as they grow older. Secondly, they hope to provide this an opportunity for veterans to ice fish and show them gratitude for their service.
