Hopkins High School standout Paige Bueckers was named to the USA under-16 national team Wednesday.

Bueckers, whose mother is Amy (Dettbarn) Fuller, a 1995 Brainerd High School graduate, survived the final cut and was one of just 12 players named to the team that will play in the FIBA Americas championship next week in Argentina.

The top four teams in the Argentina tournament will qualify for the U17 World Cup in 2018.
The freshman guard, whose grandparents are BHS graduates Steve and JoAnn (Potvin) Dettbarn of Brainerd, helped Hopkins to the 2017 Class 4A girls basketball championship game where the Royals were defeated 64-60 by Elk River. Bueckers, who has played varsity since eighth grade, averaged 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 4.2 steals last season.

The 15-year-old, who also plays in the North Tartan AAU program, was one of 133 players who participated in the first round of tryouts last week.

The roster was cut to 18 last weekend and, after two more days of practice, the final 12 players were selected.
