SAUK CENTRE-Julia Wallace shot a two-day 184 to finish 10th in the Section 8-3A tournament Thursday at Greystone.

The Brainerd Warriors junior missed advancing to state by two spots. The top five individuals not on the winning team, which was Buffalo, advance.

"She started with a 50 on her first nine (Wednesday) and then came around with a 40 on her second nine and that put her right in the mix for today," said Warriors head coach Todd Person. "She was feeling good about that. She shot a 10 on her third hole with a few penalty strokes, but she pulled herself together and played well. Then on the 17th hole she ended up in a hazard and didn't get out of it on her first try. She was right there, though.

"It was a good learning experience for Julia. I know initially she'll be disappointed, but hopefully she realized she's capable of big things."

Abby Pohlkamp cut three strokes off her opening-round 95 to place 13th with a 187.

"Abby, I think even surprised herself," Person said. "After the first round, they reseed and she was in the No. 2 spot. She was nervous, but I checked with her after a few holes and she was right with the girls she was playing against. She was only five spots from making the state tournament."

Senior Emily Aga matched her opening 95 to place 18th with a 190.

"Emily struggled with her putter," said Person. "She hit so many shots just pure, but she finsihed with 11 three putts and had 42 putts in her first round and she just wasn't able to recover today."

The Warriors finished fourth as a team.

"They had us seeded seventh coming into the tournament and the girls, in some pretty tough weather on day one, didn't think they played well, but then when they saw some of the other scores saw they were right there," Person said. "We beat both St. Cloud Tech and Sartell, who finished ahead of us in the (Central Lakes) conference."
