Girls Hockey: Third-period goals help Warriors win regular-season finale

MOORHEAD--Olivia King saved 29 of 30 shots and Brainerd/Little Falls scored three times in the third period on their way to a 3-1 victory over the Moorhead Spuds in the regular-season finale Saturday.

MOORHEAD-Olivia King saved 29 of 30 shots and Brainerd/Little Falls scored three times in the third period on their way to a 3-1 victory over the Moorhead Spuds in the regular-season finale Saturday.

Trailing 1-0 after two periods, the Warriors' Ally Smith scored short-handed and teammate Brooke Watland scored the eventual game-winner at 14:21. Gabbie Smith added an empty net goal with 29 seconds remaining.

Moorhead's Shelbi Guttormson scored four seconds into the game to give the Spuds a lead that stood until Ally Smith's goal.

The victory was BLF's fifth straight entering the Section 8-2A playoffs. Teams will be seeded Monday morning via coaches' vote. BLF finishes 12-1 in section games, which should earn it the No. 1 seed, and 23-2 overall.

BLF is ranked 13th in Class 2A and has the seventh-best Quality Results Formula in 2A.
