ALEXANDRIA - Ally Smith turned in a hat trick and Bryn Waters finished with two goals and three assists for the Brainerd Warriors who bounced back from their season-opening loss to Rogers with a 5-1 victory over the Alexandria Cardinals in a two-point Central Lakes Conference match Tuesday.
Waters assisted on all three of Smith's goals, two of which came in the first half, and gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead at the intermission.
Angela Lacy assisted on both of Waters goals.
Brainerd outshot the Cardinals 20-6 and Warrior keeper Megan Tschida recorded five saves.
"I thought the girls played great today and they were much more dynamic in the way they attacked the ball," said Brainerd head coach Grant Gmeinder. "This is going to be a good win to build on."
