Girls Soccer: Warriors, Sabres play to stalemate

Ally Smith scored a goal and assisted on another as the Brainerd Warriors came out more comfortable with their new turf field and tied the Sartell Sabres 2-2 at Adamson Field Tuesday night.

Bryn Waters netted the first Warrior goal, assisted by Smith at 32:00 of the first half, but the Sabres countered a minute later with an unassisted goal by Clare Minnerath.

Smith put the Warriors back in front unassisted at 45:00.

That score held until 68:00 when Abby Spanier found the back of the net for Sartell, forcing overtime.

Neither team was able to score in the extra 10 minutes.

Keeper Megan Tschida made six saves for the Warriors who were outshot 8-5.

"It was a really a good game of soccer both ways," said Brainerd head coach Grant Gmeinder. "I thought the girls played incredibly well tonight. They came out strong and played much better on the (new) field. The nerves were gone and they were definitely more comfortable."

"It was very up and down, both teams had chances and it was a beautiful night for soccer."
