FERGUS FALLS — Sophie Mattson led a Warrior sweep in both the 50- and 500-yard freestyles as Brainerd opened its season with a 98-82 Central Lakes Conference win over the Fergus Falls Otters Thursday, Aug. 27.
Mya Tautges posted the fastest time in the 100 freestyle and Chandler Niemeyer was first to the wall in the 100 breaststroke.
Ellie Mattson outswam the field in100 backstroke and swam on the winning 400 free relay along with Gabby Chalupsky, Macey Whitlock and Mariah Alderson.
In a rarity for Brainerd, the Warriors did not score any points in the diving competition.
“Our pool has been down all summer due to construction at the high school and unfortunately it is still not ready for us,” Warriors head coach Dan Anderson said. “The swimmers have been practicing in Staples for the past two weeks but it has been a struggle to find a practice site for our divers.
“So our divers have been practicing, but we have only managed to find them three practices where they were actually on a diving board at another facility. So, even though they are a veteran group we elected to not enter them into a competition.”
