ELK RIVER — Brainerd’s Gabby VanHorn and Chandler Niemeyer finished third and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke, the best finishes for the Warrior swimmers who placed fifth in the Section 8-2A finals Saturday, Oct. 24.
Niemeyer also cracked the top-10 in the 50 freestyle where she finished eighth.
Macey Whitlock placed fifth and seventh in the 200- and 500-freestyle races respectively while Sophie Mattson was sixth and ninth in the same races.
Posting 10th-place finishes were Mariah Alderson (200 IM), Alexis Lugo (100 freestyle) and Ellie Mattson (100 backstroke).
In the relay races, Brainerd was fourth in the 200 medley (Ellie Mattson, Niemeyer, Alderson, Mya Tautges) and 400 freestyle (Ellie Mattson, Gabby Chalupsky, Sophie Mattson, Whitlock). The Warrior 200 freestyle relay team (Whitlock, Lugo, Tautges, Niemeyer) placed fifth.

On Friday, Brainerd sophomore Izzy Olson won the diving competition with 374.25 points while teammates Breanna Deason finished fifth and Sabrina Buffetta eighth.
