ELK RIVER — Brynne Folden-Lila Collins opened with a 6-1 first-set win, stumbled in the second set only to regroup and win the third set 7-5 for the fourth-seeded Brainerd Warriors lone point over No. 1 Elk River in the Section 7-2A team semifinals Thursday, Oct. 14.

“It was such a good match,” Warriors head coach Lisa Salo said. “It’s hard to see a team season end just because we invest so much time into the team and pour everything into what we do and the results have just been so amazing this year. This was so competitive. We lost 6-1, but if you look at the scoreline and see we had four three-set matches and we pulled out one of them. It was so close.”

Taylor Ruhl at No. 2 singles and Catherine Moraghan at No. 3 singles both won their second set only to fall in the third and final set.

The No. 2 doubles team of Lindsy Busch-Ericah Folden also secured a second-set win before falling in the third.

“We talked about how everyone has a role on this team and we just had to figure out where that role ends up being,” Salo said. “Things started to evolve and everyone found their role and everyone’s role is so incredibly important. This team, I have to say, they are truly a team that supports one another, trusts one another and pushes one another and that led to the success we had as a team.”
