SARTELL -- Brainerd’s doubles team of Catherine Moraghan and Peyton McConkey posted the only win for the North No. 1 seeded Warriors, who saw their team season come to an end in a 6-1 semifinal loss to the South No. 2 seeded Becker Bulldogs in the Section 8-2A Team finals Friday, Oct. 11, at Sta-Fit.
Moraghan-McConkey defeated Halle Murphy-Arin Hendrickson 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
The match was much more closely contested than the final score indicated. Three of Brainerd’s losses came in close, three-set matches.
Kate Chaussee lost 6-7(4), 7-5, 10-8 at No. 2 singles and Ella Chaussee lost at No. 4 singles 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
At No. 2 doubles, Addie Sanford and Chloe Pecarich fought hard through two tiebreakers before losing 7-6(4), 6-7(5), 10-2.

“This was a very quality match between two strong teams,” said Brainerd head coach Lisa Salo. “It was a very competitive match and that is what we expect in the section semis. Becker was the better team today.
“It’s hard to see the team season end (Brainerd finishes 16-3), but we have nothing to hang our heads about what this team accomplished this season. We had a lot of players step into new roles and the coaching staff is incredibly proud of this team and what they accomplished.”
The Warriors play Saturday in the Section 8-2A Individual Finals at Sta-Fit. Kate Kurtzman is in the singles quarterfinals beginning at 9 a.m. Doubles quarterfinals start at 10:30 a.m. for Lily Jones-Ally Goeden and Sanford-Pecarich.
