Next: Brainerd at Sartell Invite 4 p.m. April 17.

Kappes leaped 15-3.5 in the long jump. Both of her efforts were personal bests.

"I just wanted to get a good jump in," said Kappes. "I was thinking maybe a (personal record), which happened. I just wanted to do the best I could under the circumstances.

"The first couple long jumps were a little rough. It took me a while to get into the swing of things, but by the end I got it done. There is always room for improvement."

Ally Smith finished third in the triple jump followed by Jenna Degen in fourth. Degen won the high jump with a 4-8 effort.

Sophie Balster jumped out to a quick start in discus with a first-place toss of 111-5. Meg Foster finished third followed by Kellie Fletcher in fourth to secure 14 team points for Brainerd.

Balster scored a second in shot put with a 36-7.5. Reilly Miller finished fifth and Fletcher sixth.

Cami Harmer placed second in pole vault with Kennedy Rusk right behind her in third.

Brainerd's 4x800 relay (Faith Watson, Meritt Miller, Molly Selisker and Sara Whiteman) started the meet with a first-place time of 10:18.7.

Kappes teamed with Kelsie Imgrund, Ashley Huber and Katie Streiff to place second in the 4x100 relay and helped the 4x200 to fourth.

"The 4x100 went very well," said Kappes. "We had a little mixup. One of our girls injured herself so we had to throw in somebody else right before, but I think it went well."
