Golf: Erholtz, Israelson knocked out of Players’ Championship early

Staples-Motley and North Dakota State University graduate Andrew Israelson advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2020 MGA Players’ Championship upper bracket Monday, Aug. 17, at Hastings Golf Club.

Israelson tallied two birdies in his first match against Maxwell Fox to win 3&1.

In the quarterfinals, he was down four to Matt Armstrong after nine holes. Israelson eagled the 10th hole to win that hole and won the 12th hole to be down two with six holes to play.

Armstrong birdied two of the next four holes to knock out Israelson 3&2 in the quarterfinals.

Staples-Motley senior Beck Erholtz played in the 2020 MGA Players’ Championship lower bracket and faced Austin Eation in the first round.

Erholtz’s match started on the back nine and he tallied two birdies.

The match was all-squared after 15 holes, but a double bogey on the seventh and eighth holes pushed Erholtz to a 2&1 loss.
