Area Golf News: .925 Silver leads Von Hanson's by one-half point

.925 Silver's lead over Von Hanson's Meats dissolved to one-half point following play Aug. 16 in the men's league at Cragun's Legacy Courses.

.925 Silver has 222 second-half points following a 27.5-5.5 win over People's Security. Von Hanson's has 221.5 points after its 28-16 win over Select Therapy. After play Aug 9, .925 Silver led Von Hanson's by a point.

Giovanni's Pizza hung on to third place thanks to a 22.5-21.5 win over The Tee Hive.

Scott Bender and Tim Asche each provided 9.5 points for Sazama Family Chiropractic in its 30-14 win over Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union.

Breezy Point women

The team of Kathy McTague/Barb Owens and the team of Sue Skinner/Verna Miller tied for first in the first flight by shooting 36s in the Ryder Cup game of the day in the Breezy Point women's league Aug. 16.

Second place in the first flight went to the team of Sandy O'Day and Ruth Kluklow with a 38.

In the second flight, Sue Marsolais and Connie Colon shot 37 to set the pace. Tying for second were the teams of Polly Aumock/Martha Polsfuss and Joan Burnett/Bunny Oseland with 41s.

The third flight winning team consisted of Sylvia Schmitt and Judy Thomas with a 41. Second was the team of Betty Huseby/Linda Kiefner at 44. Third went to Bugs Schmidt/Janie Pommer with a 45.

Play Thursday, Aug. 23, will be at the Whitebirch Course.

Whitefish women

Patty Kline won the overall gross championship in the Whitefish women's 18-hole league 2-day championship tournament Aug. 14-15.

Kline finished with a 2-day gross of 159. Cathy Munger took runner-up honors with a 163.

Also in Flight One, Deb Enger was the low net winner with a 2-day net score of 141.

In Flight Two, low gross winner was Lori McCormick with 174. Low net honors went to Rox Thompson with 140 followed by Mimi Swanson with 141.

In Flight Three, Susan Walstrom won the tiebreaker for low gross honors over Pam Musielewicz. Each finished with 186. Musielewicz took the low net title with a 144 followed by Joyce Fleck's 148.

In Flight Four, Marguerite Baker won low gross with 195. Nancy Schmidt took low net laurels with 153. Nancy Einan grabbed second with 155, winning a tiebreaker against Diane Giefer and Mayra Faust.

In Flight Five, Dawn Wiebusch scored 206 to win low gross. Low net was Darlene Bonnema with 155 followed by Sandy Meyer's 156.

Day One chip-ins were by Mary Kay Kendall, Musielewicz, McCormick, Nancy McEnroe and Barb Holubar.

Munger recorded two birdies on Day One. Solo birdies were by Enger, Hanson, Swanson, Kline, McCormick, Stensby, Thompson, Musielewicz, Baker and Wiebusch.

Chip-ins on Day Two were by Judy Eastwood and Anita Stensby.

Munger dropped in three birdies on Day Two, Kline carded two. Fleck, Stensby, Helen McGrath, Giefer, Dorie Kaleva and Walstrom each marked one birdie.

Thursday, Aug. 23, the 9- and 18-hole leagues will hold their annual WOW/Cause Day. This event celebrates the Whitefish women's leagues through a day of golf and supports the Mid-Minnesota Women's Center. Dinner. A presentation follows the round.

Aug. 29 will be a regular league event followed by the last monthly luncheon and meeting. Championship awards, as well as awards for ringers and most improved, will also be presented. The shootout tournament will follow at 2:30 p.m.

Regular weekly league events will continue through late September.

REMAX wins tourney

RE/MAX Lakes Area Realty won the 29th annual Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament Aug. 15 at Cragun's Legacy Courses.

Ninth-place team was Baxter Dental. Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union was the 18th-place team and Holden Electric the 27th-place team. Thirty-eight teams participated.
