EAST GULL LAKE -- Giovanni’s Frozen Pizza remained in the top spot of the men’s league standings after a 29-15 victory over US Bank, Thursday, Aug. 8, at Cragun’s Legacy Courses.

The victory allowed Giovanni’s to build a 6.5-point lead over the second-place team .925 Silver, which claimed a 23.5-20-.5 victory over Edward Jones. The loss dropped Edward Jones into fourth place.

Shep’s on 6th moved into third thanks to a 30-14 beat down of Big Wood.

Becky Butcher and Heather Carey were closest to the pin on Bobby’s Legacy.

On the Par 3 Course, Alesha Bates was closest to the pin and Erin Books made the longest putt.

BREEZY POINT -- The 3D’s posted a 14.5-5.5 over Billy’s 3 Wednesday, Aug. 7, to remain in the lead of the Breezy Point Resort men’s league standings.

Myra Faust and Barb Owens tied the teams of Gloria Thomas-Sandy O’Day and Judy Jenson-Connie Weber for second.

Betty Huseby and Martha Polsfuss tied Joan Burnett and Polly Aumock for third.



Whitefish women

PEQUOT LAKES -- Maxine Riches and Cathy Munger tied for the top spot in the first flight of the Wednesday, Aug. 7, mystery nine game for the Whitefish Golf Club women’s 18-hole league.

Pat Kline finished third followed by Debbie Enger, Barb Hanson and Nancy McEnroe in fourth.

Nancy Schmidt nailed down the top spot in the second flight. Diane Giefer was second with Cheryl Bontrager and Cathy Coombs in third.

Paula Gulliford won the third flight with Marguerite Baker and Luann Rickert tied for second. Sherrie Adams and Dawn Wiebusch tied for fourth.

Joyce Fleck carded the low day’s low net with a 67.

Rickert chipped in for birdie. Joi Brandt and Brenda VanSandt also had chip ins. Making birdies were Munger and Riches.



MGA News

Brady Raph of Deacon’s Lodge fired an opening round 3-over 74 to tie for 10th in the MGA Junior Open division Monday, Aug. 12 at Owatonna Country Club.

Carter Doose fired a 4-under 67 to take the first-round lead. Raph was in a group of six other players that shot 74.

Raph followed up his first round with a 77 Tuesday, Aug. 13, to fall into a tie for 18th.

Ian Simonich won the event with a two-day 139 or 3-under.



Senior Open

The Vintage at Staples is taking registration for the Fall Senior Open 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6 in Staples.

The $50 entry fee includes, golf cart and lunch. There is an optional skins game.

There are a men’s and pro’s division along with three age brackets in each division. There will be net and gross winners.
