Whitefish men

Roger Handberg and Keith Bettes captured the season-opening two-person best ball event Tuesday, May 7 during the Whitefish Golf Club men's league.

Gordon Fischer and Bill Johander placed second behind Bill Bell and Denny Nybo.

Rocky Wilske and Sam Kantos topped the second flight with Ron Kitzman and Ron Meyer finishing second and Darrell Swanson and Dean Brandt third.

Bell and Mike Einan made the longest putts and Tom McGrath and Don Zakeer were closest to the pin.

The Whitefish men's golf league plays Tuesday mornings and new members are welcome to join at any time during the season. Call the Whitefish Golf Club Pro Shop at 218-543-4900 for details.

The league will host a welcome back spring scramble Tuesday, May 21.

Cuyuna Chamber registration open

Registration for the 19th annual Cuyuna Chamber golf tournament is open.

The tournament will be Wednesday, July,10 at Cuyuna Rolling Hills in Deerwood.

The cost is $100 per player and includes 18-holes of golf, cart, pregame lunch, range balls and dinner.

Interested players can sign up as a single player or as a four-person team by visiting the cuyunalakes.com and clicking on events. There is a June 24 registration deadline.

U.S. Open qualifying

Pierz's Robert Bell shot a 68 Monday, May 13, in the US Open local qualifying at Chaska Town course to finish second and advance to sectional qualifier in Columbus, Ohio.

Bell finished behind Charles Danielson of Osceola, Wis., who shot a 66.

Vern Smith aced the 155-yard 17th hole of The Preserve at Grand View Lodge May 10 using a 7-iron.

Dustin Sundberg, Maplewood, aced the 135-yard 15th hole of Jack's 18 at Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge May 12 using a 9-iron.
