Another win at Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge for Staples-Motley junior Beck Erholtz, who shot a one-under 71 in the last Brainerd lakes area high school golf event Thursday, May 21.

Erholtz won the first event two weeks prior with a three-under 69.

He started his round Thursday with a birdie. After bogeys at the second and third holes, he bounced back with a birdie to finish the front nine.

“Started the round with a birdie, that always is a good kickstart to get some energy,” Erholtz said.

He capped off his round with birdies on holes 12 and 17. What was fun for Erholtz was playing with Staples-Motley seventh-graders Grant Bestland and Peyton Mithun, who both shot under 100.

“I really hit the ball solid the whole event and was really just having a fun time with my two seventh grade buddies that I brought along,” Erholtz said. “It’s nice to have younger people who look up to you and play with those guys and attempt to grow the games. I was proud of the way they played as well. They kept it under 100, which was kind of our goal.”

Pequot Lakes’ Henry Neva and Brainerd’s Dawson Ringler both finished tied for second with 75.

Brainerd’s Cole Proctor finished fourth with a 79 and Pequot Lakes’ Tyler Seeling placed fifth with an 82.

In the girls’ flight, Pequot Lakes’ Morgan Kreiger, who also won the girls’ flight two weeks prior, tied with Brainerd’s Izzy Olson for the top spot Thursday with an 84.

Brainerd’s Sophia Karsnia, who won the last Brainerd lakes area high school golf event at Cragun’s Legacy Courses, placed third, 10 shots behind Olson and Krieger. Pierz’s Kami Athman placed fourth with a 96.
