BUFFALO-Brainerd sophomore Ellie Selisker placed fourth on vault in Saturday's Section 8-2A meet and secured a berth in next weekend's 2A state tournament at the University of Minnesota.

Selisker scored a 9.300 to finish behind champion Jodi Lipp of St. Cloud Tech, who registered 9.550. Kaija Ludewig of Tech scored 9.500 and Meredith Matchinsky of Tech 9.3250.

"I am beyond excited for Ellie to have qualified on vault for the state meet," Warriors head coach Tessa Poorker said. "Last year, Ellie did not tsuk on vault and we decided to play with it this summer. She came in strong this year attacking her vault and we decided to go for the pike tsuk and she learned it in three days.

"Ellie held the first-place vault spot with a 9.3 up until the last rotation when Tech went to vault. I'm excited for her to have this spotlight and gain state experience."

In team competition, the Warriors finished sixth with 136.700 points. St. Cloud Tech repeated as champion with 145.300. Runner-up Buffalo was close behind with 145.225.

"We focused more on individual routines going into this meet as our section was very talented and rankings were very close," Poorker said. "We welcomed senior Morgan Visser back in the lineup on beam and tried some new routines and skills.

"These girls competed with guts and heart. I am so proud of the growth of this team this year. All of our seniors were back together for the section meet. Injuries were thrown at us this year but they took their therapy serious and were able to compete one last section meet of their career. Kianna Christenson fought through her ankle pain and competed on bars.

"Megan Ostendorf competed on beam and bars while earning her career-high score.

Molly Selisker competed bars and floor and earned the senior academic award.

Morgan had her first meet back on beam. She fell on her front handspring and surprised her team, coaches and fans with a back tuck series to go out with a bang."

The Warriors earned the silver academic team award with a cumulative GPA of 3.711.
