Gymnastics: Deason named team MVP

Brenna Deason was named the Rookie of the Year and the Brainerd Warriors Most Valuable Player at the team's postseason awards banquet.

The most improved honor went to Elle Bruggeman. Kenna Smith was named the most graceful faller. Abby Doran earned the mama bear award. Ellie Selisker earned the pacesetter award and Jocelyn Polansky earned the true grit award.

All-Central Lakes Conference honors went to Selisker (vault), Smith (beam and floor), Deason (vault, floor and all-around) and Izzy Olson (vault, bars, floor and all-around).

Brooke Jones earned all-conference honorable mention on bars and Eden Worden on floor.

Olson and Selisker earned all-state honors on vault.

Olson was all-state honorable mention on bars, beam, floor and all-around. Selisker was honorable mention all-state on beam and floor. Other all-state honorable mention selections were Jones (bar), Worden (floor), Smith (vault, beam and floor) and Deason (vault, beam, floor and all-around).

Deason scored the third highest beam score in program history with her 9.625. Her 36.55 all-around score was the 11th highest in program history.

Olson posted the 15th highest all-around score with her 36.25.

Smith scored the ninth highest floor score with her 9.45.

Brainerd earned the Gold Academic Award with a 3.826 grade-point average.

Next year's captains will be Jones, Smith, Selisker and Marissa Gower.
