Cassie Evenson-Carey and Joe Neznik will be inducted into the Pequot Lakes Athletic Hall of Fame during halftime of the homecoming football game Friday, Oct., 6.

Cassie Evenson-Carey

Evenson-Carey is a 1999 graduate who excelled in volleyball, basketball, softball, and golf. She earned 11 varsity letters.

In volleyball, she was named to the all-area team twice and was named the 1998 section setter of the year.
In softball, she lettered her freshman year. After an injury, she joined the golf team where she received an all-area team award and qualified for the state meet her senior year.
As a basketball player, she received three all-area awards. Her basketball career was highlighted by a 26-1 record her senior year, being a 1,000-point scorer and helping Pequot to its first state basketball appearance in 1999 where she was named all-state. She was voted the PLHS Senior Female Athlete of the Year her senior year.
After graduation, Cassie participated in basketball and golf at Central Lakes College in Brainerd and went on to play basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, earning a teaching degree in physical education, health education and a coaching minor. She resides in Pequot Lakes with her husband, Alvin, and children, Aiden and Liliana.
Joe Neznik

Neznik served the Pequot Lakes School District for 24 years as a teacher and coach. He graduated from Bemidji State University and moved to Pequot Lakes in 1979 when he married Deb Neznik. Together they had two children, Heather and Joey.
Joe will be remembered for touching and enriching the lives of countless students at Pequot Lakes and for his many years as a coach in the Pequot Lakes School System. He was instrumental in establishing the PLHS varsity softball program, helping to organize the Pequot Lakes Sports Booster Club, coaching middle and high school girls softball and basketball and being involved in the DARE program.
