BECKER-Charlie Geraets won the battle of No. 28s and Ron Stolski won the duel of 300-game winners.

Geraets, Brainerd's senior workhorse, carried the ball 36 times for 227 yards and scored twice, and the Warrior defense intercepted six passes, including four by Brady Anderson, in a 36-8 victory over the Becker Bulldogs at Eppard Field Friday.

The interceptions stifled Becker, resulting in the Bulldogs gaining 255 total yards while Brainerd amassed 417.

"It was a great defensive effort, a great defensive plan," Warriors coach Ron Stolski said. "I can't say enough about the defensive staff. (Defensive coordinator) Jason Freed and the boys did a great job. When they started throwing the ball, we put a lot of pressure on. I can't say enough about our secondary.

"And our offense played pretty well. That's a credit to our offensive line. We played three backs tonight-Joe Klang, Charlie and Max Zimmerman-and boy, I'Il tell you, they played."

The win was the 375th of Stolski's career to rank second behind only Verndale's Mike Mahlen. Lundeen entered the game No. 3 on the Minnesota State High School League wins list with 351.

Geraets' night pushed him over 1,000 yards for the second consecutive season.

Sidney Boros, Becker's No. 28 who entered the game with 703 yards, was limited to 11 rushes for 35 yards.

Brainerd senior quarterback Joe Stolski delivered an admirable performance, replacing Warrior starter Sam Miller who was injured early in the first quarter. Stolski rushed for 41 yards and passed for 39.

Brainerd's other interceptions were by linebacker Luke Johnson and defensive back Max Boran.

Becker's top offensive threat was receiver Lucas Dertinger, who caught seven passes for 150 yards. Bulldogs quarterback Josh Fobbe finished with 176 yards passing.

Brainerd capitalized on excellent field position all game. On the Bulldogs' first play, Fobbe was called for intentional grounding in the end zone, which is an automatic safety, less than three minutes into the game.

Geraets returned the free kick 23 yards to the Becker 47. Nine plays later, he sprinted 10 yards to the end zone. The first of four Zach Henke kicks made it 9-0 less than seven minutes into the game.

Zimmerman's 2-yard TD run early in the second quarter put Brainerd up 16-0. Joe Stolski sparked the drive, completing a 20-yard pass on third down to Bryce McConville.

Geraets' 1-yard scoring run late in the second quarter put the Warriors up by 23.

Later in the first half, Becker scored its only touchdown on a 60-yard pass from Fobbe to Dertinger, who caught the 2-point conversion pass from Fobbe. It was 23-8 Brainerd at the half.

Anderson's third interception at the Brainerd 45 led to Klang's 1-yard TD burst five minutes into the third.

Johnson's interception late in the third was capped by Zimmerman's 3-yard TD run, which turned out to be the final score.

Trailing 9-0 in the opening quarter, the Bulldogs had a touchdown nullified by a holding penalty-a 52-yard pass from Fobbe to Boros.
