SAUK CENTRE — Nolan Rueter of Albany rushed for four touchdowns and Pierz managed just five total yards from scrimmage as the No. 1 Huskies defeated the No. 1 Pioneers 41-8 in the Section 6-3A championship.
Michael Burggraff scored the lone touchdown for Pierz on a two yard run in the fourth quarter.
Pierz is the defending Class 3A State champion and three-time defending section champion, although the Pioneers have won seven straight section titles. The first four in this string of titles were for Section 5.
Pierz and Albany have faced each other just twice. Both times were in the playoffs. The first time Pierz beat Albany 9-0 in the Class 3A state quarterfinals in 2015. The second time was in last year’s section championship game where Pierz beat Albany 42-22.
The Huskies yielded just 8.8 points per game for the season.
