PROCTOR — Sophomore quarterback Ashton Hann threw for a touchdown and ran for another to lead the No. 3 Crosby-Ironton Rangers to their first section title in program history with a 30-6 victory over the No. 1 Mesabi East Giants in the Section 7-2A championship Friday, Nov. 20.
C-I was 0-2 in two previous section finals and the win capped a season where the Rangers finished the regular season 1-5, but received the No. 3 seed when three of the six teams in the section were unable to continue because of COVID-19.
Hann put the Rangers on the scoreboard first when he tossed a 70-yard strike to Dietrich Winegarner in the second quarter to give C-I an 8-6 lead at halftime.
The Rangers made it 16-6 in the third when Cam Durant intercepted an Evan Skelton pass and returned it 31 yards. They added two more scores in the fourth, a 7-yard run by Hann and C-I’s second pick-six of the night, a 51-yard interception return by Gabe Kramer.
Hann finished the game 10-for-14 with 161 yards passing and the one 7-yard rush for a touchdown. Kale Dugan rushed 17 times for 94 yards.
