High School Football: Esko hangs on to beat Aitkin

In a battle for the top seed in the Section 7-3A playoffs, one-loss Aitkin hosted undefeated Esko.

AITKIN — With 1:20 remaining in the fourth quarter Zach MacDonald hauled in a 45-yard pass from Gus Sanford to pull the Aitkin Gobblers to a 14-12 deficit with the Esko Eskomos Thursday, Oct. 14.

The two-point pass attempt was incomplete and the score remained 14-12 to keep the Eskomos unbeaten at 7-0 while dropping Aitkin to 5-2.

Gus Sanford scored Aitkin’s first touchdown on a 14-yard run.

Esko scored all 14 of its points in the opening quarter before Aitkin rallied.

Esko leads the Section 7-3A standings, while Aitkin is second. The Gobblers host Hibbing 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20 to close out the regular season.
