High School Football: Orlando, Verndale too much for Ortonville

VERNDALE -- With a rain-soaked field, the Verndale Pirates turned to their power game led by senior Craig Orlando’s five touchdowns to defeat Ortonville 52-6 Thursday, Oct. 10.

Orlando carried 19 times for 120 yards and scored on runs of 8-, 5-, 3-, 5- and 1-yards.

Verndale’s other scores came on an 85-yard kickoff return to open the second half and a 2-yard run by Ben Brownlow with two seconds left in the game.

The victory was the 399th win for Verndale head coach Mike Mahlen.
