VERNDALE-Verndale senior quarterback Mack Jones rushed 20 times for 151 yards and three touchdowns and completed 8 of 14 passes for 204 yards and two more scores to lead the top-seeded Pirates past the No. 4 Hancock Owls 61-18 in the Section 4 Nine-Man semifinals Saturday.

Verndale faces second-seeded Brandon-Evansville 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Fargodome for the Section 4 Nine-Man championship. The Pirates are unbeaten at 10-0 and are the state's third-ranked team in Nine-Man.

Jones scored on runs of 7, 47 and 3 yards, and threw scoring strikes to Craig Orlando (25 yards) and Matt Steege (20 yards), all in the first half.

Also rushing for touchdowns for the Pirates were Sam Moore (1 yard), Jarret Kveton (9 yards), Josh Bounds (7 yards) and Quinn Kern (3 yards).

Verndale held a 528-337 yards advantage in total offense including 324-76 in rushing.

The Pirates beat Hancock by the same 61-18 score during the regular season.
