PIERZ -- Mathias Algarin was a force to be reckoned with for the Class 3A’s top-ranked Pierz Pioneers, who defeated the Melrose Dutchmen 51-7 in a section 6-3A and Mid-State Subdistrict 1 matchup Friday, Oct. 11.
The senior running back only carried the ball six times, but it was for 155 yards and three of those carries came on runs of 41, 58 and 35 yards. He also returned a punt 49 yards for another TD.
Carter Moulzolf ran 41 yards for a score and Ross Boser’s 8-yard run in the fourth wrapped up the scoring for the Pioneers, who held a 340-109 yard advantage in total offense.
The undefeated Pioneers have outscored their opponents 318-41 over seven games and have won four by shutout.
