BARRETT-A failed two-point conversion attempt late in the game doomed the No. 6-seeded Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines who were eliminated 28-27 by the No. 2 West Central/Ashby Knights 28-27 in the Section 6-2A semifinals Saturday.
Trailing 21-14 after three quarters, WCA scored twice in the fourth to lead 28-21 before Max Phillips gave the Wolverines hope hauling in a 25-yard pass from Jake Dykhoff. Going for the win, the Wolverines failed on the two-point conversion attempt.
Dykhoff scored on runs of 64 and 19 yards finishing with 95 yards on nine attempts and completed 9 of 22 passes for 90 yards with one interception. Matt Goeden led the WDC ground game with 124 yards on 14 carries including a 3-yard TD scamper.
