North Dakota State University’s Joe Haeg, a Lake Shore resident and 2011 Brainerd High School graduate, was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the fifth round of the National Football League draft on Saturday.

Haeg, a 6-foot-6, 305 pound offensive tackle for the Bison, was the 155th overall pick in the draft. Haeg is the first Brainerd lakes area football player chosen in the NFL draft in recent history.

Haeg, the son of Richard and Janet Haeg, walked on at NDSU. He started 60 of 61 career games for the Bison and was a two-time All-American left tackle.

The Minnesota Vikings will host Indianapolis on Dec. 18. The 23-year-old Haeg joined college teammate Carson Wentz as 2016 draft picks as the quarterback was taken second overall by the Philadelphia Eagles.
