Legion Baseball: Nisswa cruises into championship game

HERMANTOWN - Nate DeChaine drove in two runs, scored once and tallied two hits helping the Nisswa Legion beat Grand Rapids 8-6 Saturday to advance to the championship game of the Substate 10 tournament.

That game was scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, but was delayed because of rain. Nisswa will play Hermantown 2 p.m. Monday for the championship. Nisswa would have to lose twice. The winner will advance to the State Division I tournament starting Thursday in Eagan.

Paul Augustinack relieved starting pitcher Logan Madsen and went 4.1 innings. He allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks to secure the win.

Hayden Bukowski secured the final two outs for the save in a back-and-forth affair.

Nisswa scored one run in the bottom of the first before relinquishing the lead in the third.

A four-run seventh inning by Nisswa proved too much for Grand Rapids.

Tory Miller finished 2-4 with two runs. Drew Sannes and Matt Casperson each finished 2-4 with an RBI.

Taylor Streiff , who hit a triple, and Bukowski also registered RBIs.

During Nisswa's 11-10 win over Duluth earlier Saturday, Mizuki Shumsky went 2-4 with a double, three RBIs and scored twice and Logan Madsen finished 2-3 with five RBIs and a run scored.

Conor Gessell finished with two hits, including a double, and a run. Taylor Streiff also doubled, drove in a run and scored twice as he finished 2-3. Logan Jones collected two hits.

Nisswa exploded for a seven-run first inning before losing the lead in the top of the seventh. A two-run bottom half allowed Nisswa to advance.

Tory Miller pitched 6.1 innings. He allowed nine runs, four of them earned on eight hits and three walks. He struck out four. Logan Madsen got the final two outs in the seventh to pick up the win.

TJ Grauman, struck out one and allowed two hits and no runs in two innings for the save.
