VIRGINIA-For every Nisswa rally top-seeded Grand Rapids had an answer Saturday eventually leading to a 6-5 loss in the loser's bracket game of the Sub State 10 playoffs.
Trailing heading into the eighth, Brainerd secured a 4-3 lead before Grand Rapids answered with two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Brainerd tied it in the ninth 5-5 and had the go-ahead run thrown out at the plate. Grand Rapids then scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to advance to the championship game and the state tournament
Hanson Devine, Jake Meyer, Mac Brink and Tristan Brecht each had two hits a piece. Meyer's two hits were doubles and Brecht drove in a run. Braydon Borg finished with a single and two RBis. Cole Kubesh was 1-2 with an RBI.
McCale Peterson started and went seven innings. He allowed eight hits and two walks which turned into three runs, two earned. He struck out four. Devine relieved Peterson. He allowed three hits and three runs, one earned, to suffer the loss. He struck two.
Nisswa advanced to face top-seeded Grand Rapids by eliminating No. 2 seeded Hibbing Friday 3-1.

Hanson Devine pitched the final three innings in relief of Braydon Borg to secure the win. Devine allowed three hits and no runs. He walked one and struck out two. Borg pitched the first six innings. He allowed four hits and no earned runs. He walked two and struck out two.
Hanson devine 2-3, McCale Peterson, Jake Meyer and Tristan Brecht all had RBI singles for Nisswa.
