LITCHFIELD — Ben Virnig and Noah Cekalla combined to pitch the Pierz Legion to 4-2 and 7-0 victories and advance past the Central Sub-State semifinals Thursday, July 22, over Litchfield.
In the opener, Noah Cekalla struck out eight and allowed one run on five hits and six walks. Ryan Stuckmayer was 2-4 with a double and a run. Kamden Happek was 1-2 with a walk, stolen base and run and Ben Virnig and Andy Winscher each drove in a run for Pierz.
Virnig pitched the final two innings for the save. He allowed one run on two hits.
In Game Two, Virnig pitched five scoreless innings. He struck out five and allowed two hits and three walks. Stuckmayer pitched the final two innings. He struck out one and gave up one hit.
Louis Gruber was 2-3 with two RBIs. Michael Leidenfrost was 2-3 with a walk, three stolen bases and two runs scored. Stuckmayer was 2-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Cekalla went 1-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored. Kolten Happke drove in two runs and Kamden Happke went 1-2 with a double, walk, RBI and a run scored.

Pierz will not play Atwater Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, July 25, for a chance to advance to state. It will be a best of three series. Pierz will host Atwater Saturday and play at Atwater on Sunday.
